Celebrate the holiday season with your remote team! 🎄❄

It can be difficult to feel festive when you work remotely, but there are ways for your team to get into the "holiday spirit" even when you live and work hundreds of kilometers apart. Christmas is around the corner and it is a time of coziness, hot drinks, unwinding and practicing gratitude. Here are some ideas to make the Christmas magic work when at distance:

Keep it inclusive

First of all, be aware that not everyone celebrates Christmas. By using more general words like ‘festive’, ‘holiday’, ‘winter’, you make sure you’re not leaving out others who celebrate other cultural or religious holidays during that time, including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali.

Secret Santa 🤫🎅

Instead of giving each other nice (or funny) gifts, we have another idea! How often do you give your colleagues a real compliment or tell them what you appreciate about them? This year, your gift will consist of a token of appreciation. Make a lottery pot, draw a name and share a few special words with that person, write a postcard for example!

Your virtual background 💻☃

Perhaps you could hang some pretty decorations in your (home) workplace. For example, some candles, figurines, holly or maybe a whole Christmas tree. It looks festive and cozy to those who see you online and it also gets you in the festive mood yourself!

Online End of the year celebration🎉

No matter which online platform your company is using, long non-interactive “celebrations” become boring quite quickly. Make them interactive and fun! This works best in smaller groups, so you may need to split up teams. Here are a few fantastic holiday games that will create fun interaction and make the team feel connected remotely:

  1. Guess the song - Christmas/Winter edition: 1 point for each artist and song title
  2. Quiz: Who knows their colleagues best? For example: Who drinks the most coffee? Who loves to dance to Shakira?
  3. Uglysweater contest: needs no explanation, right? 😉
  4. Come dine with me….remotely: eat together remotely or even cook together and enjoy the non-work related chatter.
  5. Drawing Contest: may the funniest or most creative win.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
